Demanding fire safety requirements

Fire-retardant foam

Materials with controlled fire performance. BASOTECT®, a melamine resin foam with inherent fire-retardant properties, is a leading example.

  • Natural fire resistance
  • Self-extinguishing performance depending on type
  • Reduced flaming droplets
  • Compliance with strict standards
Description

What is fire-retardant foam?

Its chemical composition provides natural fire resistance and does not encourage flame spread. BASOTECT® is a notable melamine foam with high thermal resistance and safe performance under fire exposure.

Particularly suitable where fire safety is critical, including public spaces, transport, technical acoustics and industrial facilities.

Self-extinguishing foams

How self-extinguishing foam behaves

Alongside fire-retardant foams, self-extinguishing foams provide substantial safety in many industrial and technical applications. They behave as follows:

  • May burn while continuously exposed to a flame
  • Droplets extinguish before falling, preventing spread
  • The material stops burning when the heat source is removed

This behaviour reduces the risk of fire spread, unlike conventional foams that may continue burning and produce toxic smoke and flaming droplets.
